SWEDES SPLIT SEASON OPENER VS JOHN BROWN
Lindsborg, Kan. - On February 28, Bethany opened their season hosting John Brown University at the Lindquist Tennis Center. Historically, these two teams play close matches, and today's battle was no different, despite the lopsided final score. The Swedes were unable to get a match in doubles, ceding the doubles point to the visitors.
In singles, the Swedes received their only point at #2, picking up a straight sets win from Maria Mistereck (Jr). With close losses at #1 (Sofia Castillo Paz, Jr), #3 (Kyla Metro, So), #5 (Helen Harbit, Fr), and #6 (Makenna Russom, Jr) the Swedes eventually fell with a 1-6 score.
After matches finished, Coach DeWitt's statement: "Today felt like everyone was just a little off. We always expect lots of battles when we play John Brown, and today we ended up on the wrong side of most of them. The women played hard, but didn't have it today. Obviously I'm happy with Maria getting her win at #2, especially after starting down 0-4. I think a few of the other matches we could have done things slightly differently, but we unfortunately came up on the wrong end today. We'll get another shot at them in a week, and I'll do a better job preparing us, see if we can get a better result. I feel really good about our women, I just have to do a better job getting us ready to play."
The Swedes play next on Sunday, March 2, hosting Midland University at 4:00. Go Swedes!
