SWEDES DROP GAME 3 TO SPIRES; LOSE SEASON SERIES 1-2
Leavenworth, Kan. - In a crucial conference baseball game on March 25, the Bethany College Swedes were defeated by the University of Saint Mary Spires, with a final score of 6-2. Despite a valiant effort to break the tie with a two-run burst in the third inning, the Swedes couldn't maintain their momentum against the Spires.
The Swedes, now holding a season record of 12-18, witnessed significant contributions from Jonathan Crist and Rafael Perez who scored the runs. Perez not only scored a run but also added an RBI alongside Emmanuel Alicea, who notched a triple during the game. Additional highlights included a key double hit by Perez and a stolen base by Crist.
Jan Cruz drew the start going 5.0 innings allowing eight base runners while striking out three. Braxten Plemons and Alex Martinez each threw a complete inning allowing a combined five base runners with one strikeout apiece. Willian Figueroa-Soto did not have as easy of an outing as the previous two lasting only 0.2 innings before Aiden Troup entered the contest to record the final out.
The key moment for Bethany came in the third inning when they managed to break the ongoing 0-0 deadlock, scoring two runs to take a temporary lead. However, the Swedes were unable to sustain this advantage as Saint Mary gradually took control of the game.

Looking forward, Bethany College aims to bounce back in their next outing scheduled for March 29 against the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes in Salina, Kan. The Swedes will be looking to improve their standings and turn their season around with a strong performance in this upcoming contest.
