4th QUARTER SPURNS SWEDES

LINDSBORG, KAN. – The Bethany College Swedes Football Team played host to the Bethel College Threshers for the Swedes Senior Day.

The Swedes would start off with the ball and show great promise as they were able to drive down the field, but they were halted at the one-yard line. The Thresher defense would bend, but not break resulting in a turnover on downs just inches from the goal line. Bethel would get some breathing room as they were able to get to their own seven-yard line and punt the ball to the Thresher 46-yard line.

The Swedes would throw an interceptions two plays later, but the defense would force a fumble as Frank Bohannon would chase down the runner and punch the ball out. Zemonda Wilson would recover the ball on the Swedes 30-yard line. The succeeding drive would result in a 56-yard punt by Zeke Mumford that resulted in a touchback.

Two plays later, Kelby Henderson would pick off a Thresher pass and return it to the Bethel 28-yard line. Unfortunately, the Swedes would only muster four yards on the drive and the field goal attempt would be blocked giving the Threshers the ball on their own 24-yard line.

Following a few punts, Bethel would orchestrate a 13-play drive resulting in the first points of the afternoon by way of a 25-yard field goal to put the Threshers up 3-0.

The following kick off went out of bounds setting the Swedes up at the 50-yard line. Bethany would gain 24 yards before a roughing the passer penalty on the defense put the Swedes on the 13-yard line. Ryan Morale would attempt a 30-yard field goal and kick it right through the uprights to tie it up 3-3 with no time left in the half.

The second half would open with a couple of punts, but the Threshers would kick a field goal on their second drive to take a 6-3 lead. In the fourth period, the Bethel offense would start to get it going score three touchdowns in the final period to seal it 27-3.

Dalton Whitworth drew the start in this one. Whitworth would throw for 110 yards and rush for 4 yards. Zamarion Spencer started at running back, but would lead the Swedes in receptions with 5 for 29 yards. Demetric Toney led the receiving corps in yards with 38.

Kam'ron Brown led the defense with 9 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and a sack. Khyree Marshall had a nice day with 7 total tackles along with 0.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss. Frank Bohannon forced the lone fumble for the Swedes. Kelby Henderson recorded the lone interception for Bethany while also defending 2 passes.

The Swedes will end their season in Wichita, Kansas as the face the Friends University Falcons for the Falcons Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm.
