SWEDES SPLIT SEASON OPENER VS JOHN BROWN
Lindsborg, Kan. - On February 28, Bethany opened their season hosting John Brown University at the Lindquist Tennis Center. Historically, these two teams play close matches, and today's battle was no different. The Swedes began doubles with a clean sweep at lines 1 through 3, earning the doubles point.
In singles, the Swedes received singles points at #1 Francisco Bravo(Fr), #2 Zeke Mumford(Sr), #4 Daniel Lozano Machado(Sr), and #5 Pedro Melo(Fr) to clinch the 5-2 win.
After the win, Coach DeWitt had this to say: "Overall I was pleased with our guys today. We started well with doubles, but throughout the day, both segments, we were just a little off. I thought the guys did a great job of adjusting to their struggles and finding ways to compete, and to win. Anytime we play John Brown and Coach Campbell, we know we're in for a dogfight; their kids play hard, clean, and are always well coached. Today was no exception, and we feel good being able to get the win. It was also good seeing our new guys, Dylan and Pedro, get their first college wins. We've got work to do, but it's good to start the team season 1-0."
The Swedes play next on Sunday, March 2, hosting Midland University at 4:00. Go Swedes!
