SWEDES KEEP PLAYOFF HOPES ALIVE AFTER SWEEP OF FALCONS
Lindsborg, Kan. - The Bethany College Tennis teams played host to the Friends University Falcons in a match that was pretty critical for both teams' playoff chances.
Women
The Swedes needed to just win one doubles point due to the Falcons only having four women playing, thus the number three doubles point went to Bethany. Kyla Metro and Makenna Russom took the point in the number two match 6-1 to secure the team point for the Swedes.
With the Falcons only competing four athletes, the number five and six singles' points went to Bethany. Kyla Metro secured the final team point needed with her 6-1, 6-4 victory in the number two spot. Karee Adam won 7-6 (7-1), 4-6, 1-0 (11-9) at the three spot while Makenna Russom handled her business 6-2, 6-2 at number four.
Men
The men had quite a turn of events postgame. Francisco Bravo and Martin Priban teamed up to win their doubles match at the one spot 6-3. Zeke Mumford and Dylan Gwilt secured the point with a 6-2 victiory as the twos.
The singles matches did not go in favor of the Swedes as Daniel Lozano (6-4, 6-3) and Dylan Gwilt (6-1, 6-1) both won their matches, but were the only Swedes to do so. By the end of the day, the Swedes would fall 3-4 to the Falcons, but after a decision by the tennis committee, the number six match was overturned due to a lineup error. After the decision, the final score became 4-3 in favor of the Swedes.
