CLAUSSEN QUALIFIES A-STANDARD IN JINX INVITATIONAL
Winfield, Kan. - The Bethany Track & Field teams opened their seasons in Winfield, Kansas while competing in the Jinx Invitational.
The Swedes took advantage of the great weather as both teams combined for 21 personal bests, 10 top 3 finishes, 5 event champions and 1 National qualifier.
Head Coach Aaron Yoder: "Wow what a day for the Swedes Track and Field team to open up the Outdoor season! The Bethany College teams competed at the Jinx Invitational hosted by Southwestern College. The weather was perfect and conditions were great for the opening meet. A huge hand to our staff of Coach Smucker and Coach Martinez for preparing, pacing, driving and leading our student athletes to great performances! Big thanks to all the parents that came out and supported the Swedes and a big thanks to Calvin Range for always providing great pictures of the performances."
Starting off the day, the Javelin crew was primed and ready. Kort Sjogren led the Swedes to their first victory in Javelin, hitting his lifetime best and only 2.5 meters off the national standard.
Next was sophomore Taylor Claussen who hit the national standard on her first throw and bettered her mark in finals to hit the Automatic national standard good for 138'2 (42.11 meters).
Other event champions were the men's 4x100m relay team of Khryree Marshall, Calvin Range, Enoch Ojo and Cameron Gordon while Freshman Alan Garcia won the Discus Throw with a toss of 122'11 (37.46 meters). Some of the top performers today were school record holders Enoch Ojo and Cameron Gordon as both came away with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finish in their events.
