SWEDES COMPETE IN YORK DUAL
York, Neb. - The Bethany College Men's Wrestling team traveled to York, Nebraska Wednesday afternoon. This was the first dual for the Swedes since the Oklahoma Shootout where they competed hard as a team and looked to carry that momentum into the York University dual.
In the 125 weight class both teams had to forfeit.
At 133 pounds, York University would take the 6 team points from a forfeit from the Swedes. Hector Holguin would take the win in this weight class.
At 141 pounds, the Swedes would have to forfeit again giving York another 6 team points and Julian Marrufo would pick up the win.
At 149 pounds, Kaden Goff went up against Drew Lugafet and would be able to pull out the first victory for the Swedes. Goff would pin Lugafet in just 1:14 and give the Swedes their first 6 team points.
At 157 pounds, unfortunately the Swedes would have to forfeit after bringing the team points within 6. John Fox of York University would pick up the victory and give them another 6 team points to bring the team score to 18-6.
At 165 pounds, Jacob Barnes fought hard against York's Dayton Fraser but just came up one move too short. Fraser would pick up the victory by pinfall in 2:18 against Barnes. This win would give York another 6 team points to bring the team score to 24-6.
At 174 pounds, the Swedes caught a break when York had to forfeit to Jesse Gardner giving them 6 team points and another victory from Gardner.
At 184 pounds, Gannon Mosher competed for the Swedes and would match up against Shawn Pierre. During the match Mosher had the chance to take down Pierre, but at 2:09 Pierre made a move to get Mosher to the mat and get him pinned. Pierre would give York another 6 team points to bring the team score to 30-12.
At 197 pounds, senior Chase Pywell would pick up the victory by forfeit from York. They would give up 6 team points to allow the Swedes to creep closer in team points. After this forfeit that would bring the team scores to 30-18.
At 285 pounds, Rocky Whitehead had the best match of the night. Building off his 3-0 performance at the Oklahoma Shootout, Whitehead would stay hot picking up the victory on a 8-2 decision over Logan McDonald. Whitehead has been consistent all year long and does not look like that will slow down anytime soon. This victory brought the team score to 30-21 and that would be the final score.
For the Swedes, Christopher Walker competed at 285 as an extra against Deonnie Graves. This match was over very quick as Walker picked up the victory by pinfall in just 56 seconds.
