TABOR CLASSIC PROVES TROUBLESOME FOR SWEDES

Hillsboro, Kan.- The Bethany College Swedes were on the road, Friday, November 8th to take on the Bellevue University Bruins in the Tabor College Classic. Tipoff scheduled for 5pm. Swedes fell 67-81 to the Bruins. The Swedes then took on the Stephens College Stars on Saturday, November 9th at 1pm, where they fell 56-72.

1st: The Swedes struggled early on to contain the Bruins' offense who managed to score 30 points in the first quarter. Bethany quickly scored but then went on a scoring drought which lasted around three minutes. Never the less, the Swedes were still able to score 14 points in the first quarter.

2nd: The Swedes found some momentum in the beginning of the second quarter but once again ran into a scoring drought. Bethany managed to score an additional 14 points to the Bruins 8 points. The score going into the break was 28-38.

3rd: Down by ten, the Swedes were determined to cut the lead down further but the Bruins bounced back after their slow performance in the second quarter. Bellevue would go on to score 28 points in the third quarter to the Swedes 20 points. The score going into the fourth quarter, Bethany down by eighteen, 48-66.

4th: The Swedes had a strong showing in the fourth quarter and were able to contain the Bruins' offense, only allowing Bellevue to score 15 points in the quarter to Bethany's 19 points. Unfortunately, the Bruins would prove to be a tough opponent as they took away the win. Final score: 67-81.

Notable stats include, Jaden Newfarmer with 5 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists and 16 points, Janae Black-Harmon with 6 rebounds and 9 points, and Emily Green with 5 rebounds, 1 steal, and 9 points.

Next up for the Swedes were the Stephens College Stars. The Swedes fought hard throughout the game but struggled in the 4th quarter to finish the job. Unfortunately, Bethany would fall to the Stars, 56-72.

1st: Both teams had a strong start to the game in the first quarter, however the Stars pulled ahead quickly and the Swedes found themselves down by nine, 2-11, with 7:25 on the clock. Bethany worked to chip away at the lead and came within one of Stephens, 18-19 to finish out the quarter.

2nd: Down by one, the Swedes went to work to take the lead and keep the Stars from building any momentum in the second quarter. Bethany built a two-possession lead over Stephens with 6:48 left to play, 26-21. The Stars would come back and take the lead with just over four minutes left in the quarter, 28-29, but was quickly switched back after a successful jumpshot by the Swedes. This trend would continue until the end of the second quarter with the Swedes up by four, 38-34.

3rd: The third quarter would prove to be difficult for both teams as they struggled to score. Stephens would go on to score 12 points to Bethany's 10 points. The score going into the fourth and final quarter would put the Swedes ahead by two, 48-46.

4th: Both teams would go back and forth until the Stars made it a two-possession game with the Swedes down by four, 54-58, with 4:46 left to play. From there the Swedes would experience a scoring drought that would last until just over a minute left in the game. Meanwhile the Stars would push points and extend their lead. Final score: Swedes 56, Stars 72.

Notable stats include Janae Black-Harmon with 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals, Emily Green with 4 assists and 7 steals, and Kylie Dunn with 10 points, and 1 block.
