
SWEDES VANQUISH VALOR IN THREE
Lindsborg, Kan.- The Bethany Swedes held their first home conference game against the Evangel University Valor, Saturday September 23.
The Swedes, hungry for a win, came out utterly dominating against the Valor quickly taking the lead at 7-2 in the first set. Evangel regrouped and chipped away at the lead after a couple of errors made by the Swedes tying the set at 10-10 and again at 13-13. The Valor managed to get a two-point lead on the Swedes at 16-14 which continued until Bethany tied up the set at 18-18. Evangel and Bethany once again tied the set at 19-19. At this point, the Swedes took advantage of a couple of hitting errors made by the Valor and lead the set 23-20. Bethany won the set with a kill by Melia Coleman and a kill by Leamaris Fuentes Torres ending at 25-20.
Beginning of set two, Bethany quickly took the lead after three attack errors made by the Valor, 5-2. Evangel once again chipped away at the lead getting within one point of Bethany at 5-6. At which point, Bethany lit the set up going on a 6-point run, 12-6. The Swedes continued to keep the pressure directly on Evangel, maintaining their lead at 18-14. The Valor willed themselves back into the game at 18-19. The Swedes responded with a kill from Zola Moore and a pair of kills from Atlantis Jamerson to earn the advantage at 22-19. Set two wrapped up with a kill from Autry Satica, giving the Swedes an early 2-0 lead over the Valor.
The third and deciding set started off a little bumpy for the Swedes falling into a three-point hole to the Valor at 7-4. Evangel continued to lead the set until Bethany tied the set up at 9-9. Evangel and Bethany then went point for point with one another until the Valor got hot and went on a three-point run extending their lead to four at 17-13. With the risk of extending the match to a fourth set, Bethany regrouped, coming within one point of the Valor at 19-20. Evangel managed to escape a tie with a kill but the Swedes once again put pressure on the Valor, who made two attack errors tying the set at 21-21. Again, both teams went point for point and tied again at 23-23. Unfortunately for Evangel, the Swedes swept the them after another couple of attack errors ending the set at 25-23.
Notable stats from this game include, 9 kills by Atlantis Jamerson, 4 blocks also by Atlantis Jamerson, and 18 digs by Michelle Acevedo.
