ROUGH OPENING WEEKEND FOR SWEDES

Ft. Worth, Texas – The Bethany College Swedes Baseball team took I-35 down to Ft. Worth, Texas to take on the Texas Wesleyan University Rams in the Swedes' season-opening series.

Game 1

Christopher Echavarria's debut proved strong in the first three innings allowing no hits in that span. The Swedes were unable to get much going on the offensive end totaling two hits in Game 1. The Rams would take it 4-0.

Game 2

Bethany would find themselves in a hole early down 8-0 through the first three innings. With their backs against the wall, the Swedes would tack on two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth, but that would be it for the offense in this one. Texas Wesleyan would take this one 8-3.

Game 3

Texas Wesleyan would find themselves up 6-0 through five innings before the Swedes would jump on the board. William Sanchez would hit a double down the left field line to score Rafael Perez. Connor Crayton would single home Sanchez in the next at bat. That would be all for the Swedes as the Rams took this one 12-2 in eight innings.

Individual Stats

Jonathan Crist would show why he is batting at the lead-off spot going .400 (4-for-10) on the weekend with two runs scored. William Sanchez would bat .375 (3-for-8) recording a hit in each game and leading the Swedes with two RBI in the series.

Kenneth Nieves threw in relief in game one allowing just a walk while recording a strikeout. Christopher Echavarria tallied five strikeouts in his debut.

The Swedes will return to Texas, this time Austin, Texas, to take on the Huston-Tillotson University Rams in a four-game series at Downs Field. Games one and two are scheduled for Saturday, February 1, beginning at 12:00 PM. Games three and four are scheduled for Sunday, February 2, beginning at 12:00 PM.
