SWEDES TAKE ONE IN TUMULTUOUS THREE-GAME SERIES

Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes took on the McPherson College Bulldogs in a three-game series that witnessed seven ejections.

GAME 1: SWEDES 5, BULLDOGS 17 (7-INNINGS)

Scoring in Game 1 was early for both teams as the score was tied 4-4 at the end of the second inning. The Swedes were unable to keep it up as the Bulldogs would score 13 more runs, including eight in the seventh inning, while the Swedes could only muster one run in the sixth. McPherson would take Game 1 17-5 in seven innings.

Although the Swedes lost, Rafael Perez still had an incredible game going 3-4 with two RBI, one run scored, and a ground rule double.

GAME 2: SWEDES 7, BULLDOGS 6

Game 2 showcased the Swedes' ability to bounce back from early deficits. After the top of the fourth inning, Bethany was down 6-0. The Swedes proceeded to score seven unanswered runs which was capped of by a Danny Barker walk-off single that scored Jonathan Crist and Devin Soto-Harris to give the Swedes a 7-6 victory and even the season series at 1-1.

Six Swedes tallied at least one RBI during the contest. Josue Figuera, Fernando Bones, and Stephen Kent teamed up for a double-play in the third inning.

GAME 3: SWEDES 2, BULLDOGS 7

Game 3 did not start off well for Bethany as they found themselves down 4-0 until Stephen Kent drilled one down the left field line to score Fernando Bones and Bryce Moseley to cut the deficit to 4-2. Unfortunately, that would be all the Swede would score in this one, falling 7-2 and losing the season series 1-2.

Ryan Smith tallied two of the four hits the Swedes would record. Nicholas Flores had a solid outing lasting 4.2 innings allowing only two earned while striking out five.

The Swedes have some unfinished business from last weekend that still needs to be settled. Sunday, March 23, the Swedes will play host to the Friends University Falcons against to finish Game 3 of the season series. Currently, the game in in extra innings with both teams tied 9-9. Play is scheduled to continue at 2:00 PM in Lindsborg, Kan.
