SWEDES SWEEP SEASON FINALE VS MOUNDBUILDERS

Winfield, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes hit the road for their season finale against the Southwestern College Moundbuilders. Of course, with the season being spring, there was a slight change in the schedule. Game 1 was played in Winfield, but Games 2 and 3 were played in Wichita, Kan. on Friends University's baseball field.

GAME 1: SWEDES 10, MOUNDBUILDERS 4

The Swede came out on a mission scoring five in the top of the first inning. Between the second and fourth innings, the Moundbuilders would score four to cut the deficit to one. From the top of the fifth inning, the Swedes would score five more highlighted by a Diego Rivera homerun in the fifth. The Swedes would walk away with a Game 1 victory 10-4.

Diego Rivera had a great game with three hits, three RBI, and three runs scored. Stephen Kent wasn't too shabby either recording three hits, including a double, and two RBI. Jonathan Crist also tallied two RBI.

Luka Morales drew the start striking out 10 batters over five innings.

GAME 2: SWEDES 3, MOUNDBUILDERS 0

Scoring took a backseat in this one. Ryan Smith played a hand in two of the three scoring opportunities with a single in the third inning to score Devin Soto-Harris and, later, Smith would score on a wild pitch in the seventh. Jesuel Cruz would score by way of a failed pickoff attempt by the pitcher. The Swedes would win Game 2 3-0.

Alex Martinez was dominant in this one going 8.0 innings allowing just three hits and three walks. Jan Cruz would enter in the ninth and record the save.

GAME 3: SWEDES 3, MOUNDBUILDERS 2 (8-INNINGS)

Game 3 was a nail-biter as we got some "free baseball" as some would say. In the third inning, the Swedes would execute a double steal in which Jonathan Crist stole second while Devin Soto-Harris stole home to open the scoring. In the fifth, Fernando Bones would single home Ryan Smith. The Moundbuilders would hit a two-run homerun to tie it up in the bottom of the fifth. In extras, Connor Crayton would single home Stephen Kent for the eventual game-winner as Aidan Troup would step in and close out the Moundbuilders to preserve the win for the Swedes.

This series was an exciting end to a long season. The Swedes will return home just in time for finals week at Bethany College.
