SWEDES STILL FINDING FOOTING; FALL TO CHARGERS, MUSTANGS

Salina, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Men's Basketball Team took a short trip to Salina, Kansas to participate in the Kansas Wesleyan Coyote Classic.

Game 1 Swedes 59, Chargers 76

Game one started off with the Swedes scoring the first 4 points of the contest as Maurice Cudjo II and Kobe Samake Krajnc would open with a pair of buckets. Things turned around quickly as the Chargers would score 18 points in a row resulting in a timeout for Bethany. The Chargers would swell their lead to 17 at the break.

The second half would go better for the Swedes as they would fight back to within 4 points with 5:30 left to play, but Briar Cliff would get it together and take this one 76-59

Devin Spencer would lead Bethany in scoring and rebounds with 19 points and 7 boards. Jamal Frenchwood would tally a team-high 3 assists. Maurice Cudjo II and Ty Eugene would tie for a team-high 2 steals.

Game 2 Swedes 52, Mustangs 72

The Swedes would be outpaced by the Mustangs early on as the Morningside lead would grow up to 12 points. Bethany would start to gather some momentum with 4:38 left in the first half as the Swedes would go on an 8-0 run over the next two minutes cutting the deficit to four. The Mustangs would enter halftime up 33-28.

The second half would start slow for both teams as the first points of the half wouldn't be scored until almost three minutes into play. Morningside would outscore Bethany 39-24 in the second half to take this one 72-52.

Devin Spencer would lead the Swedes in scoring and assists with 23 points and 3 dimes. Maurice Cudjo II would record a team-high 8 rebounds. Defensively, Spencer would record 3 steals.

Up Next…

The Swedes will start conference play on Wednesday, November 15th by hosting the No. 4 ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles. Last time these two teams faced off, Bethany came out on top 66-61. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 PM in Hahn Gymnasium.
