
SWEDES OUTPACED BY COYOTES; FALL 73-59
Salina, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Basketball Team travelled to Salina, Kansas to face off against the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes for the next installment of the Smoky Hill Rivalry.
From the jump, the Coyotes got on the board with two points on their first possession. Not to be outdone, Jamal Frenchwood would drain a long-ball to give the Swedes the lead on their first possession. Wesleyan would answer back with a score to take the lead back, but Frenchwood would hit another bomb from outside to give Bethany a 6-4 lead. Both teams would go back-and-forth throughout the entire half as there were only three instances were a team would be up by more than one possession. Devin Spencer would cap off the half with a near half-court shot to beat the buzzer sending both teams to the locker room with the Swedes trailing 34-32.
The second half brought the same energy for the first eight minutes as both teams would land multiple blows. Afterwards, the Coyotes would start to gain momentum with a 12-3 run over the next 4 minutes and 17 seconds to nab an 11-point lead. Things would go right back to the back-and-forth action, but the Coyotes would never relinquish the lead and take this one 73-59.
Jamal Frenchwood would lead the Swedes in scoring with 20 points while also tying for a team-high 7 rebounds. Maurice Cudjo II would pour in 13 points and grab 7 boards. Devin Spencer would fill up the box score with a stat in every category with 10 points, 7 boards, 2 assists, 4 steals, and a block.
Neither team was dominant at the charity stripe as both would should below 70%. From the floor, Bethany shot 34.5% (20 for 58) and 33.3% from behind the arc (9 for 27).

The Swedes will begin a 3-game homestand over the next two weeks. First up is a date with the McPherson College Bulldogs on Wednesday, December 6th with an 8:00 PM scheduled tipoff.
