LINDSBORG, KAN. – The Bethany College Swedes Men's Basketball team took on the Avila University Eagles in a key KCAC matchup.
Play started off slow as the Swedes would lead 2-0 over the first two minutes of action. John Knott increased that lead to 5 with a shot from downtown, but the Eagles would answer back with one of their own to get on the board. Over the rest of the period, Avila would outscore Bethany 33-22 to go into the break up 9 points.
The Eagles would open the second half with a 28-14 run to go up 23 points, but the Swedes showed no quit as JD Carson would hit 3 consecutive three-pointers to force the Eagles to call a timeout and put the Swedes back in it. Unfortunately, Bethany would fall short of a comeback as Avila took this one 77-60.
JD Carson led the Swedes in points with 11 including going 3-for-4 from downtown. Will Dominguez led Bethany in rebounds (9) and blocks (3).
Turnovers proved critical as the Swedes gave the ball away 25 times leading to 27 points for Avila. Bethany shot an efficient 48.8% from the floor, but was outshoot by the Eagles 72 to 43.
