SECOND-HALF SLUMP DOOMS SWEDES
LINDSBORG, KAN. – The Bethany College Swedes Men's Basketball team took on the Bethel College Threshers for a second time this season. This time, the Swedes were the home team.
After giving up 5 points to open the contest, Bethany got it together and constructed an 8-0 run before Bethel hit a three-pointer to tie it up. There was plenty of back-and-forth throughout the first 10 minutes in which the Swedes would find themselves up 16-15 going into the latter half of the period. Around 30 seconds later, the Threshers would take the lead via a layup, but JD Carson would answer right back with a deep three to take a 2-point lead. Bethel would tie it up again with 7:52 remaining in the first, but Carson would strike again to give Bethany a 3-point lead. The Threshers would go on a 18-9 run to close the period up 37-31. Bethel would continue riding their momentum to close this one 72-53.
Noah Simiskey led the charge with 14 points including going 4 of 6 from downtown. Maurice Cudjo II was the only other Swede to reach double-digit scoring (11 points). Keondae Johnson hauled in the most rebounds (8), nabbed the most steals (4), and racked up the most assists (4) for the Swedes.
It was a tale of two halves for the Swedes. In the first half, the Swedes shot 43% from the floor, including 58% from beyond the arc, while forcing 16 turnovers to stay in it. In the second, Bethany would only hit 25% of their shots overall as well as losing the turnover battle 11-5.
