SWEDES GIVE UP LATE RUN; FALL 90-75

Springfield, Mo. – The Bethany College Swedes Men's Basketball team took a charter bus to Springfield, Missouri to take on the Evangel University Valor.

Both teams would score on their opening possessions as Maurice Cudjo II would comeback with a made three-pointer following a Valor layup. Noah Simiskey would pile on with another shot from downtown on the next possession. Evangel would go on a 6-0 run to regain the lead, but Ty Eugene would knot it up at 8 apiece. The Valor would start to put it together using a 14-3 run to double up on the Swedes with 13 minutes left in the first half. It would only take 6 minutes for the Swedes to fight back and retake the lead as JR Cison and JD Carson would begin to catch on fire. The Swedes would extend their lead up to 8 points and would go into the break leading the Valor 46-42.

The second half began slow for the Swedes as the Valor would start the period with an 8-0 run before Maurice Cudjo II put Bethany on the board in the second half with a deep-ball. JR Cison would give the Swedes the lead by way of a three-pointer with just under 14 minutes left to play. Jamal Frenchwood would score a layup at the 10-minute mark to put Bethany on top 63-62, but Evangel would finish the game on a 28-12 run enroute to a final score of 90-75 in favor of the Valor.

4 Swedes would hit double-digit scoring in this contest as JR Cison led the way with 17 points followed by Maurice Cudjo II with 16, JD Carson with 13, and Ty Eugene with 12. Jamal Frenchwood would tally 6 assists while Kobe Samake Krajnc would lead the way in rebounds with 9.

Although the Swedes were outshot from the floor overall, Bethany was more efficient from deep shooting 42.4% (14-33) from downtown setting a new season-high in percentage and 3pts made as a team.

The Swedes host Ottawa University on Saturday, February 17th in the penultimate home game of the season. Tipoff is set for 7:00 PM in Hahn Gymnasium.
