
3 SWEDES EARN ALL-KCAC YEARLY HONORS
Wichita, Kan. - The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2024-25 KCAC Men's Basketball All-KCAC teams and award winners. Student-athletes were selected for all awards by vote of the KCAC head men's basketball coaches.
Oklahoma Wesleyan University took home the regular-season conference title for the fourth consecutive season, with a 19-3 record in conference play, as part of a 22-6 overall record.
KJ Spiller of Friends University and Derrick Talton Jr. of Oklahoma Wesleyan University were named KCAC Men's Basketabll Co-Players of the Year. Talton was also named Defensive Player of the Year. Najee Jones of Ottawa University was named KCAC Men's Basketball Newcomer of the Year and Julian Smith of Sterling College earned KCAC Men's Basketball Freshman of the Year. Phil McClintock of Friends University won KCAC Men's Basketball Coach of the Year.
Representing Bethany College were five Swedes: Devin Spencer (All-KCAC Defensive Team), Emmanuel Akpan (All-KCAC 2nd Team), and Kenny Haynes (All-KCAC Honorable Mention).
Devin Spencer came back from a torn ACL to lead the NAIA in steals (96) and steal per game (3.6). Spencer was also essential in the Swedes' defense forcing a KCAC-leading 16.2 turnovers per game (438 turnovers).
Emmanuel Akpan came to Bethany for one year and made the most of it. Akpan led the Swedes in scoring and rebounds. He also was also one of two players in the KCAC to average 17+ ppg and 9+ rpg.
Kenny Haynes caught fire in the latter half of the season 20+ five times since the Swedes return from Christmas Break. He would finish sixth in the conference in three-pointers made (66).
