SWEDES’ MEN WIN HESSTON GC SHOOTOUT VIA PLAYOFF

Hesston, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Golf teams traveled down to Hesston, Kan. to compete in the Hesston Golf Course Shootout hosted by Tabor College.

On the men's side, Bethany entered two teams with Hans Woelfel, Luke Tate, Will Briggs, Mads Hasenschwandtner, and Taylor Hardin on team A, and Aidan Lynch, Tim Biggs, Daniel DeGeorge, Dylan Slusser, and Filip Hjerten representing Team B. The Swedes' Team A won the tournament by way of a playoff with the Baker University Wildcats.

Individual finishes for Team A were solid as all five placed top-25 with three in the top five. Woelfel placed second overall - his best finish in his collegiate career - shooting a 219 (+6). He would shoot a 66 (-5) in the first round to lead the Swedes and field. Tate placed third – his best finish as a Swede – shooting a 224 (+11) and leading the Swedes in the third round with a score of 77 (+6). Briggs – also setting his career best finish – placed fourth shooting 227 (+14) and leading the Swedes in the second round with a subpar score of 70 (-1). Hasenschwandtner and Hardin would finish 13th (232) and 24th (238), respectively.

Aiden Lynch led Team B with a 12th place finish shooting a 231 (+18). Daniel DeGeorge tied Hasenschwandtner with a 13th place finish shooting a 232 (+19). Biggs (241) and Hjerten (243) finished 30th and 33rd, respectively, while Slusser (254) placed 42nd.

On the women's side, three Swedes were getting their first taste of competitive play in the NAIA. Allison Applequist, the lone Swede with playing experience, shot a 232 (+19) throughout play placing 19th.

The Swedes will get their chance to host the Bethany College Classic at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kan. Play is set to begin on Monday, April 7, through Tuesday, April 8.
