Bio

Dane Straight is beginning his second season at the helm of the Bethany Men's Soccer Program. Coach Straight took over the program he helped start as a player back in 1992 after working in the admissions office here since 2020.

Dane graduated from Bethany with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Chemistry in 1997 before embarking on a 21-year coaching career. Beginning as a student assistant coach with Bethany, he moved on to become the Head Women’s Soccer and Assistant Track and Field Coach at McPherson College (1999-2000) before returning to his hometown to work on a master's degree program at Fort Hays State University. Unable to stay away from the pitch, Straight started coaching again as an assistant at Hays High School (2002-2004) and head coach for Hays Soccer Club. He accepted the position of Head Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach/Assistant to the Fitness Center Director at Cloud County Community College (2004-2007), before helping start the inaugural Men’s and Women’s Soccer programs at Cowley College in 2008 as an assistant coach before taking over as the Women’s Head Coach until 2017.

Coach Straight was an NAIA All-American Scholar Athlete in 1995 (soccer) and also competed in Track and Field at Bethany. He holds a National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (now United Soccer Coaches) and a USA Track and Field Level 1 Certification.

In his spare time, enjoys spending time outside in nature, reading, taking pictures, playing sports, and started a podcast called The Zealous Coach in 2018. Coach Straight and his wife, Alycia, have been married for 15 years and have a daughter, Claire (13), and son, Levi (11).
