BOTH MEN & WOMEN FALL TO EVANGEL
Lindsborg, Kan. - On April 2, the Swede Tennis Teams faced off against KCAC newcomer Evangel at home in breezy conditions.
The twice-rescheduled match was competitive at nearly every spot, eventually finishing in a 2-5 loss for the men and women. In doubles, both #1 teams (Jahzuena Bradshaw-Douglas/Piper Marquez and Zeke Mumford/Matt Lucas) were able to secure victories but the Swedes as a group lost both doubles points. In singles for the women, Sofia Castillo Paz (#3, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3) and Marquez (#4, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5) were able to pick up their second consecutive KCAC victories in the losing effort. On the Men's side, #3 Daniel Lozano Machado (6-2, 1-6, 6-2) picked up his second straight win, while #5 Alejando Rico Moran (3,5) picked up his first KCAC victory.
The losses drop the women to 4-8 (1-2 KCAC) and the men to 3-9 (1-3 KCAC) for the season.
Coach DeWitt's thoughts: "I think our kids competed exceptionally hard today. This is a little bit of a heart-breaker. We felt like this was an important match for us, and to come up a little short was tough for the players. We'll need to play with a little more intensity moving forward and learn from the things that didn't go well today. Unfortunately, we turn right around and have to play exceptional tennis again tomorrow."
