BETHANY VS MCPHERSON TENNIS RECAP
LINDSBORG, KAN. - On March 18th the Bethany Tennis Teams hosted the McPherson College Bulldogs at the Lindquist Tennis Center. On a cold, breezy day both teams toughed out weather that was cooler than forecast.
In doubles, the lone bright spot came from the #3 Women's team (Castillo Paz/Gregory) who picked up a solid win. Our other teams weren't as fortunate; McPherson was able to win both doubles points.
In singles, the men's highlight came from #2 Hernandez Colman, who eventually lost in three sets but battled throughout his match. On the women's side, the two seniors from Independence (Marquez and Gregory) were both locked into three-set dog fights. At #4 Marquez was able to pick up the win; at #6 Gregory came up just short. The final scores came to 0-7 for the men and 1-6 for the women. The Swedes get a day off before travelling to Doane University on Wednesday.
Coach's thoughts after the losses: "I can't ever fault our kids heart and desire. When you're hosting the preseason #1 on both sides of the conference, you know you need to bring your A game. I think a few of us did that, but mentally we need to keep getting sharper and take advantage of the opportunities we're given. It was good seeing the #3 team get a quick win, and as always Franco was a competitor. Piper keeping her streak alive was big today, that's a legit win for her. Tia going three-sets twice against McPherson shows a pretty good competitor. Now we work to get back to 100% and keep getting better."
Go Swedes!
