SWEDES FALL IN QUARTERFINALS TO NO. 1-SEEDED BRAVES
Salina, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes qualified for the KCAC Men's Tennis playoffs for the first time since 2021. This time, the Swedes played against the No. 1-seeded Ottawa University Braves in the quarterfinals. The matches were supposed to be played on the Swedes' home court as Bethany College is the host school for the KCAC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships, but due to rain and surrounding thunderstorms, play was moved to Salina, Kan. at Genesis Health Club.
The Braves would win the doubles point 2-0 by taking the number two and three doubles matches. In the regular season, all three matches would be played to completion, but, for tournament purposes, both teams play to clinch, therefore, the number one doubles match was not finished. Bethany's number one doubles team was leading 5-3 by time play was halted.
The Swedes were unable to take a point in the contest due to the Braves taking the first three matches that were completed. Ottawa would take the number one, two, and four singles matches. Zeke Mumford, the Swedes' number three singles player, was in the midst of a third set by time play was stopped. The number five and six players, Dylan Gwilt and Pedro Melo, respectively, were unable to begin their matches due to the Braves clinching a 4-0 victory.
