
Forfeits come up costly for the Swedes
Lindsborg, Kan. - The Bethany College Men's Wrestling team hosted Friends University on Wednesday night. Forfeits came back to haunt the Swedes as they gave up 18 points, but would ultimately win the head-to-head matchups against Friends.
At 125 pounds, the Swedes gave up a forfeit and the Falcons, Izaiah Smith, picked up 6 points automatically.
At 133 pounds, Braden Brimm fell to JR Thelweel in a 7-5 decision. Brimm battled back from a 7-1 deficit but came up short in the last period.
At 141 pounds, Kaden Goff lost by pinfall to Falcons, Ezavian Ortega, in 5:55 mark of the match.
The next two weight classes the Swedes will have to forfeit giving up 12 team points to the Falcons.
At 165 pounds, Jesse Gardner wins by pinfall against Treyton Rusher at the 4:17 mark. Granders win would give the Swedes their first 6 team points of the match.
At 174 pounds, Triston Vande Velde won by major decision against Barandon Barrager 12-1. Triston was dominant in the top position where he scored the majority of his points. He would add onto the Swedes team points giving them an additional 4.
At 184 pounds, Hunter Blix lost by pinfall to Jason Bowers in the 4:21 mark of the match.
At 197 pounds, Chase Pywell would win by a 10-3 decision. Throughout the match Chase was dominant in every position that he wrestled. This win would bring the Swedes team points to 13 in the head-to-head matchups against Friends.
In the heavyweight class of 285 pounds, Rocky Whitehead would avenge a loss he took on Saturday at the Falcon Invite. Whitehead fell to Grabriel Bowers on Saturday by pinfall, and on Wednesday night he was able to win by a 8-4 decision. He would add 3 points to the Swedes team score. His win would give the push the Swedes needed in the final head-to-head matchup giving the Swedes 16 team points and the Falcons would receive 15 team points not including the forfeits.
The final matchup would be an exhibition match where Gannon Mosher went up against Gustavo Renteria. Mosher lost by pinfall at the 2:02 mark of the match. This would not count towards the team score.
