SWEDES COMPETE AT THE DOANE CONNER/OPPENHEIM OPEN

Crete, Neb. - The Bethany College Men's Wrestling team competed in the Doane Conner/Oppenheim Open Saturday morning. Braden Brimm placed 5th in the tournament and contributed to 16.5 team points for the Swedes. Rocky Whitehead gives the Swedes 5 team points with Braden Goff and Jesse Gardner also adding a few team points. 

At 133 pounds, Braden Brimm finished 5th in the tournament and scored 16.5 team points for the Swedes. In the first round, Brimm loses by 10-8 decision to Nathaniel Lucero (William Penn University). Brimm would get a bye in round one of consultation, and in round two he would pick up the victory by pinfall against Drew Lugafet (York University) in just 45 seconds. In rounds three and four Brimm would win both of the matches by pinfall in just under 2:50 against Manny Limon (Indian Hill Community College) and Xavier Castillo (Valiant College Prep). In the fifth round of consultation, Brimm would win by medical forfeit over Jr Thelwell (Friends University). In the semifinals, Brimm would end up losing by major decision to Ethan Woods (University of Saint Mary). Braden Brimm won by no contest placing 5th in the tournament.

At 149 pounds, Kaden Goff did not place but finished with 3 team points in the tournament. Goff opened up the tournament with a bye in the first round. In the champions round two, Goff lost by major decision to Blake Gonzalez (Grand View University). Headed into the second round of consultation Goff won in overtime against Jacob Quest (University of Saint Mary). In the third round Goff won by medical foregit sending him into the fourth round. Unfortunately, Goff lost by pinfall to Trevor Anderson (Grand View University) in 1:13. 

At 165 pounds, Jacob Barnes would lose the first round by pinfall to Jacob Wallace (Friends University) in 1:08. Barnes would receive a bye in the first round of consultation and in the second round would lose by tech fall. Dez Gartrell (Unattached) would get the best of Barnes 26-11. 

At 174 pounds, Jesse Gardner picked up 2 team points for the Swedes. In the first round, Gardner received a bye and in round two picked up the victory defeating Blake Daher (Benedictine College) by 3-2 decision. In the quarterfinal Gardner was not able to get past Eli Messick (Baker University) losing by an 11-6 decision. In the consultation round four, Gardner lost by pinfall to Torrance Keehn (Concordia University) in 1:23. 

At 184 pounds, Gannon Mosher lost the first round by pinfall to Austin Morris (Jamestown University) in 1:44. In the first round of consultation, Mosher would get a bye and in the second round lose a 12-4 major decision to Brent Greenfield (Ellsworth Community College). 

At 197 pounds, Chase Pywell lost both of his matchups at the tournament. The first loss came by pinfall to John Schuttler (Graceland University) in 4:04. In the first round of consultation, Pywell lost by tech fall to Elijah Davis (Grand View University). 

At 285 pounds, Rocky Whitehead did not place in the tournament but did pick up 5 team points for the Swedes. In the first round, Whitehead would lose by pinfall to Joshua Gaye (Indian Hill Community College) in 1:37. In consultation round one and two, Whitehead would bounce back from the loss and win the next two matchups by pinfall. The first win coming against Jack Hedke (Concordia University) in 1:55 and the second win coming against John Turner (Indian Hill Community College) in 0:55. In the consultation round three, Whitehead would lose by 14-5 major decision to Deacon Haag (Iowa Western Community College). 

Christopher Walker would also compete for the Swedes at 285 pounds in the tournament. Walker would lose the first round by 2-1 decision against Eli Noonan (Jamestown University). In the consultation round one, Walker received a bye, and in round two would lose by pinfall against Cy Renney (Concordia University) in 1:32.
