GARCIA AND RIVAS SWEEP KCAC SOFTBALL WEEKLY AWARDS
Wichita, Kan. — Jessie Garcia and Ulissa Rivas have earned the KCAC Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week honors, respectively, the KCAC announced Monday. Both student-athletes were selected for their performances from Feb. 24-March 2 by a vote of conference sports information directors.
Jessie Garcia was dominant in the circle this week. She threw a complete game against #15 Midland University, holding the Warriors to four hits and a .57 WHIP.
Ulissa Rivas had an incredible week, hitting "for the cycle" in home runs (i.e. a solo shot, two-run, three-run, and grand slam) this week while tallying a whopping 24 RBI. Rivas currently leads the NAIA in RBI (26) and home runs (7) so far this season.
Head Softball Coach Tyler Gunelson had this to say on his sweeping the weekly awards: "The ultimate goal this week was to play as a team and we were able to do that coming away with eight wins this week. Amongst the eight wins, we played solid defense and hit the ball really well. Both Jessie and Ulissa did their part which led to sweeping KCAC Softball honors this week."
