SWEDES SUCCUMB TO THE STARS IN WEEKDAY MATCHUP

Oklahoma City, Okla.- The Bethany College Swedes were on the road in Oklahoma taking on the Oklahoma City University Stars, Tuesday, March 11th in a weekday double header. The Swedes were looking to take a shot at the ranked OCU Stars who placed 3rd in the NAIA standings this week. Unfortunately, Bethany wouldn't be able to swipe a win in either game.

Game 1 started off a bit slow for both teams until the later innings where bats were starting to get hot. It wasn't until the bottom of the 4th inning did the Stars score the first run of the game, 0-1. The Swedes responded in the top of the 5th inning with Kalee Aguilar hitting a sacrifice fly out to center field allowing Vryah Morgan to score, 1-1. Bethany tried to continue gaining momentum with Abigail Nitzel still on base but Oklahoma City managed to close out the top of the inning with the game being tied. From there, the Stars got hot and went on a scoring run the bottom of the 5th, with 3 runs, and 2 more in the bottom of the 6th inning. Final score, 1-6, the Swedes fall by five. Game 2 started off rough for the Swedes who quickly found themselves down by two going into the top of the 2nd inning, 0-2. After being unable to generate momentum, the Swedes struggled in the bottom of the 2nd inning to contain the Stars who scored an additional 2 runs, 0-4. Down by four, the Swedes went into the top of the 3rd inning wanting to break through the hitting drought but once again Oklahoma City was ready to shut it down. The Stars then turned around and scored 5 more runs, 0-9 in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Needing to score to extend the game, the Swedes once again looked to Kalee Aguilar who singled to center field to help kickstart a comeback in the 4th inning. Unfortunately it wasn't in the cards for the Swedes and Bethany fell by nine in the 5th inning.

Dylann Baker started on the mound for the Swedes and faced 24 batters and threw 37 strikes out of 64 pitches before being relieved by MacKenzie McCaslin. MacKenzie McCaslin faced 8 batters and threw 7 strikes out of 8 pitches in Game 1. Jessie Garcia started in the circle for Bethany in Game 2 and faced 13 batters and threw 27 strikes out of 38 pitches before being relieved by Paris Hammer. Paris Hammer threw against 7 batters before she was relieved by Jordyn Stelzig who faced 4 batters.
