SWEDES STUMBLE AGAINST FRIENDS
Wichita, Kan.- The Bethany College Swedes were on the road at Friends University over the weekend taking on the Falcons. The Swedes are coming off of a split double header against Tabor meanwhile the Falcons came into the contest with a four-game winning streak.
Game 1: The Swedes started off their afternoon on shaky ground after the Falcons managed to knock out two homeruns in the bottom of the 2nd inning and led by 4. From there, Friends continued to hammer Bethany with runs in the bottom of the 3rd and 4th inning. The Swedes tried to mount a response but couldn't quite connect and gain momentum. The game wrapped up in five innings after the Swedes were shut out by the Falcons. Final score, 0-10 in favor of Friends.
Jordyn Stelzig started in the circle for Bethany and faced 12 batters and threw 19 strikes out of 37 pitches before being relieved by Dylann Baker. Dylann Baker faced 6 batters and threw 14 strikes out of 21 pitches. Paris Hammer came in and finished out for Swedes and faced 8 batters and threw 15 strikes out of 28 pitches.
Game 2: Determined for redemption, the Swedes set out with a new plan of attack for the second game. However, the Falcons were quick on the jump and scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, 0-3. It wasn't until the third inning did Bethany get on the board. Abigail Taylor singled to right field and advanced on the throw to second which led to Kalee Aguilar scoring, 1-3. The Swedes didn't stop there, Destiny Espinosa singled to center field which opened the door for Abigail Taylor who was on second and Abigail Nitzel who was on third to score. The game was now tied at 3-3. This wouldn't last long as Friends managed to score a run in the bottom of the 3rd inning, 3-4. The Swedes went to work to prevent another loss but the Falcons got hot in the bottom of the 6th inning and scored another two runs, 3-6. The final score was Swedes-3, Falcons-6.
MacKenzie McCaslin was on the mound for Bethany and faced 17 batters and threw 23 strikes out of 49 pitches before being relieved by Dylann Baker. Dylann Baker faced 15 batters and threw 34 strikes out of 54 pitches. Like Game 1, Paris Hammer finished in the circle for the Swedes and faced 3 batters and threw 7 strikes out of 13 pitches.
