SWEDES SPLIT WITH THE PANTHERS

Lindsborg, Kan.- The Bethany College Swedes hosted the York University Panthers, Tuesday, March 25th in a weekday double header that started at 3pm.

Game 1:  The first of two games started off with a band after the Panthers scored 5 runs in the top of the first inning followed by 3 runs for the Swedes to finish out the inning. Destiny Espinosa got things started for Bethany after she doubled down the left field line giving way for Vryah Morgan to score. Shantell Evans followed with a single to left field and advanced on a fielding error to second base while Destiny Espinosa advanced to third and then home for the second run for the Swedes, 2-5. To wrap up the bottom of the first, Ulissa Rivas singled to center field and Shantell Evans score, 3-5. Both teams dug in and tried to get bats hot again but it wasn't until the bottom of the 4th inning did Bethany managed to score another run. Vyrah Morgan singled to center field and advanced to second while Abigail Nitzel advanced to third and Megan O'Neal scored, 4-5. However, the Panthers extended their lead in the top of the 6th inning to 7 runs. The Swedes tried to make a comeback but it was too late. Final score; 4-7, Swedes fall by three.

Dylann Baker started on the mound for the Swedes and faced 30 batters and threw 58 strikes out of 97 pitches before being relieved by Jordyn Stelzig. Jordyn Stelzig faced 7 batters and threw 15 strikes out of 26 pitches.

Game 2: The second game of the night started off similarly to the first with York scoring first after they put 4 runs on the board. Bethany tried to respond but the Panthers managed to score again in the top of the 3rd inning after holding the Swedes at 0. The score going into the bottom of the third, 0-5. The Swedes went to work and tied it up at 5-5 after Abigail Taylor grounded out to shortstop allowing Tamia Butler to score, 1-5. Next, Shantell Evans singled to center field and Abigail Nitzel scored, 2-5. Then the York pitcher threw a wild pitch that brought Vryah Morgan home, 3-5, and advanced runners to place Shantell Evans on second and Destiny Espinosa on third who then scored after a fielding error on the pitcher, 4-5. To finish out the inning, Samantha Gomez singled to right field and Shantell Evans scored, 5-5. The Panthers didn't wait long and took back the lead after scoring a run in the top of the 4th, 5-6. Bethany wouldn't sit idly by and let York hold onto an advantage. The Swedes got hot in the bottom of the 4th and scored an additional seven runs to lead by six, 12-6. From there, the Swedes held the Panthers to no additional runs. Final score, 12-6, Bethany wins by six.

MacKenzie McCaslin started in the circle for Bethany and faced 30 batters and threw 55 strikes out of 91 pitches before being relieved by Paris Hammer. Paris Hammer faced 7 batters and threw 16 strikes out of 28 pitches.
