COCKRUM NAMED WOMEN’S SOCCER HEAD COACH

Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Athletic Department is pleased to announce that Elliott Cockrum has been named the next Head Women's Soccer Coach following the position opening in February. Coach Cockrum's official start date is March 31.

"We are excited to welcome Coach Cockrum to the Swedes Family," said Dean of Athletics, Laura Moreno. "His experiences from being an assistant at a variety of levels, from NCAA Division 2 to NAIA to high school, have prepared him to take this opportunity head-on. His familiarity with the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC), the Midwest, and the specific area is an immediate benefit, as is his energy and passion for coaching and the game of soccer. We look forward to seeing Coach Cockrum lead Swedes Women's Soccer in a new direction!"

Elliott Cockrum's latest stop was at Central Christian College, located just down the road in McPherson, Kan. While with the Tigers, Cockrum served as the head coach for the reserve team while helping create and coach drills for the varsity team. Over the past eight years, Cockrum also made stops at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kan., Rogers State University in Claremore, Okla., Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan., and Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla.

Newly named Head Coach Elliott Cockrum: "First, I'd like to say thank you to Bethany College, Laura Moreno, and Luke Samford for the opportunity. I'm eager to get to work with the college and the team to get Bethany College Women's Soccer back to where it should be. The KCAC is a good conference with a lot of talented teams, but I believe the girls and the culture they've built have laid the groundwork in order to be successful. It's going to be an honor to lead them. I'd also like to say thank you to the boys I coached at Central. They're a great group of young men who will continue to develop both on and off the field."

Elliott Cockrum will not have to start this journey alone at Bethany as the Swedes will retain Alberto "Chato" Rodriguez as his assistant coach, who will be entering his second year with the program.

"We would like to thank Assistant Coach Chato Rodriguez for all of his work throughout the past 10 months, during the transition, and moving forward into this new era of Swedes Women's Soccer. His contributions to the program are invaluable, and we look forward to seeing what Coach Cockrum and Coach Chato will accomplish together, along with our fantastic women's soccer student-athletes," said Moreno.

Cockrum graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2018 with his Bachelor's degree.
