BETHANY VS DOANE TENNIS RECAP
LINDSBORG, KAN. - On March 20th, the Bethany tennis teams traveled to Crete, NE to play against the Doane tennis teams. Weather was cool and windy, as is becoming habit for the teams this spring.
In doubles, the men were quickly overwhelmed, losing the doubles point in a sweep. The women were able to pick up wins at #2 (Adam/Ahlsted) and #3 (Gregory/Reichenberger) to get the doubles point.
In singles, the men tightened things up, showing their competitive drive in nearly every match. The final score favored the Tigers 6-1, but matches were tight at #1 (Mumford), #3 (Rodriguez Rivas), and #4 (Rico Moran), which was not reflected in the final team score. The Swedes lone win came from #2 Franco Hernandez Colman (Sr), his 5th of the spring. At this point he is 5-2 in singles and has played 6 three-set matches.
For the women's singles, the Swedes picked up straight-set victories at #2 (Metro), #3 (Marquez), #4 (Russom), and #6 (Adam) to clinch the 5-2 Swedes Victory. This win leaves Piper Marquez (Sr) at 7-0 in singles for the season. Freshman Kyla Metro picked up her 5th win as well.
When asked, Coach DeWitt had this to say: "I thought this was a good rebound match for some of our guys. Several of us were frustrated after Evangel and Mac, and being able to come out and adjust and compete like the guys want to was good for our mental well being. It was by no means perfect, but I thought we finally played some decent mental tennis, at least for a set at a time. Hopefully they can string that together again on Saturday. For the women, playing with a totally different lineup was a bit of an adventure, but I thought we handled it well and went out and got some doubles wins and rolled that straight into singles. It was especially good to see girls adjusting to opponents and finding ways to win, even if it wasn't pretty. We'd always like to win pretty, but we'll take an ugly loss over a pretty win every day of the week."
The Swedes next host the Southwestern College Moundbuilders at the Lindquist Tennis Center on Saturday. Go Swedes!
