Bethany vs Southwestern Tennis Recap

 

In doubles, a solid win for the #1 men (Mumford/Hernandez Colman) wasn't able to be supported, as the visitors won at #2 and #3 to claim the doubles point. For the women, facing a shorthanded Southwestern squad, a quick win at #2 was enough to claim the doubles point. 

 

In singles, the men's twp wins on the day came from #3 Carlos Rodriguez Rivas and #4 Alejandro Rico Moran in straight sets. For the women, the clinching match came from #4 Piper Marquez to lengthen her winning streak to 8. With no matches at #5 or #6, the Swedes were able to survive to get a 4-3 win. The men fell 2-6.

 

Coach DeWitt's comments: "I wasn't thrilled with how we showed up today. I guess I didn't do a good enough job getting us ready the last few days, and it showed today. While I think our players always play hard, today we just looked a little off and it definitely showed in the score book. I was thrilled with Carlos getting the win today; he's been close all season and finally got over the hump today. More of that coming I hope. As a whole though, we'll have to reset the next few days and make sure we're ready for Sterling next week."

 

The Swedes have a few days off before playing at Sterling College on Wednesday, March 27. This is a rescheduled date due to expected poor weather on Monday. Go Swedes!
