BETHANY VS EVANGEL TENNIS RECAP

 

To start things, the Swede's men's teams were able to collect the doubles point with wins at #1 (Mumford/Hernandez Colman) and #3 (Lucas/Campbell). The women were less fortunate, only getting a win at #2 (Metro/Adam). They entered singles 1-0 for the Men and 0-1 for the Women.

 

In singles, the men picked up their second point from #2 (Hernandez Colman), but were unfortunately unable to score any other points, eventually falling 2-5 to the hosts. The women started off down 0-3 with three-set losses at #1 (Castillo Paz) and #2 (Mistereck) before getting a win at #3 (Metro), also in three sets. The tide shifted with the win at #3, as #4 (Marquez) and #6 (Gregory) was able to win in straight sets. The final match of the day came down to a three-set battle at #5 (Russom) that was eventually settled in a win for the Swedes. Final score 4-3 in favor of the visitors. 

 

After the matches and travel were done, Coach DeWitt has these thoughts on the road trip: "I'm sure a lot happier now than I was when our men were battling and our women were down 0-3. I thought we battled hard throughout the day. Picking up two three-set wins from freshmen, and to clinch, was great. Losing a couple more just showed how hard both teams battled. There definitely are things we're going to need to sharpen up before McPherson in a couple days, but anytime you can get a hard-fought conference win, especially on the road, it is a good day."

 

Final scores: 2-5 Men, 4-3 Women. The Swedes have one day of rest before hosting the McPherson Bulldogs on March 18. Go Swedes!
