The Swedes traveled to Atchison, Kansas to play Hannibal-LaGrange University and Benedictine College on Friday, August 26.
Bethany took Hannibal to four sets, winning 3-1 against the Trojans. First set, the Swedes won quickly leading the set in kills (13) and limiting errors (3), ending in 25-14. Second set rolls in and the Trojans, found success leading the set to a 25-20 win over the Swedes. Bethany quickly responded and shut down the Trojans ending the third set 25-20. Determined to close out the match, the Swedes came out of the gate leading the Trojans in kills (13). Bethany finalized the win with a score of 25-20. Notable stats from the game include 14 kills led by Zola Moore and 25 assists led by Mandy Knipp, and 23 digs led by Michelle Acevedo Ortiz.
Next on the docket was the Benedictine Ravens. The Swedes came out with a slow start to the match losing the first set 17-25. Set two, Bethany fell short and lost the set 23-25, with the Ravens leading the set in kills (18). Third set, the Swedes were determined to walk away with a win, dominating the set to a 25-19 win with the Swedes leading in kills (11). Bethany, who showcased their potential, played with heighten intensity and velocity, in the previous set, battled with fatigue and inconsistency coming into the fourth and final set against the Ravens. The Ravens responded and took the fourth set 25-14. Notable stats from the game include 12 kills by Zola Moore, 26 digs by Michelle Acevedo Ortiz, and 6 blocks by Autry Satica.
The next morning, the Swedes traveled to Peru State College in Peru, Neb. to play the Bobcats again in the same week, followed by the Waldorf University Warriors. The Bobcats came out swinging and battled the Swedes for a first set win 25-20. Bethany fought to the end but the Bobcats were able to claw their way back to take the second set 25-22. Frustrated, the Swedes went into the third set desperate to find their groove, worked to build a lead at 22-17. Looking like they might have a win, the Bobcats once again went on a run to get back into the set. Swedes lose the third set 22-25. Notable stats of this game include 8 kills by Zola Moore, 4 blocks by Madison McGuire, and 15 digs by Michelle Acevedo Ortiz.
Second game of the day came after the devasting loss to Peru State against Waldorf. Waldorf quickly began to test the Swedes at the net and came out swinging. Bethany battled in the first set. Sadly, for the Swedes, the Warriors took the first set after capitalizing on several late in the set errors made by the Swedes ending 25-16. Second set gets started and the Warriors came out hot. Bethany was unable to adjust quick enough, losing the second set 19-25. The Swedes once again in a do or die situation mustered what they could to try and take the third set to stay alive in the match. Warriors who were on a hot streak didn't waiver in their goal of sweeping the Swedes in a 3-0 win ending the third set 27-25. Upcoming for Swedes Volleyball include hosting the Langston University Lions, Tuesday, Aug. 29 in Hahn Gymnasium, Lindsborg, Kan. at 6pm and traveling to Chickasaw, Okla. on Thursday, Sep. 1. to play USAO at 6pm.
