SWEDES DROP 5TH SET; FALL TO AGGIES

Goodwell, Okla. – The Swedes traveled to Goodwell, Oklahoma to compete against the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies, Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

Swedes came out hot against the Aggies, leading the set 12-5. Bethany continued to dominate the net winning the set 25-17 with a .462 hitting percentage and a total of 16 kills. The Swedes took the Aggies point for point in set two until 12-12 where they found momentum and went on a hot streak leading the set 18-14. After several errors and a couple of kills from the Aggies, OPSU found themselves tied with the Swedes at 20-20. Bethany, again, took the Aggies point for point to 23-22. The Aggies took advantage of a bad set by the Swedes and then took the lead. OPSU won set two 25-23.

Set three gets started with a quick lead by the Swedes 6-2. Bethany continued to push points leading 9-5. OPSU struggled to get back into the set but was able to gain traction at 13-12. The Swedes battled point for point losing their lead at 20-21. The Aggies continued their hot streak finishing the set 25-22. Heading into set four, the Swedes got out early leading the set 6-2. They continued to wage war on the Aggies maintaining their lead at 18-14. The Aggies, unable to slow the Swedes' momentum, found themselves down 17-22. OPSU regrouped and put pressure on Bethany who struggled with a couple of errors. The Aggies came back and led the set 24-23. However, the Swedes were not going to let this go unanswered. Bethany tied it up 25-25. Win by two, the Swedes took the win at 27-25.

The final set of the game and matched looked to be a good one with the Swedes and Aggies tied at two wins apiece. Both teams battled for every point with several ties up to 4-4. The Aggies managed to gain the lead and didn't look back leaving the Swedes down 5-9. The Swedes adjusted and were able to lessen the lead at 10-13. With a win in sight, the Aggies continued to put the pressure on the Swedes who were unable to overcome the deficient losing the fifth set 11-15.

Notable stats from the game include 17 kills by Zola Moore, 6 blocks by Madie McGuire, and 27 digs by libero Michelle Acevedo Ortiz.

Swedes are at home this Saturday, September 16 against Stephens College. JV starts at 12pm in Hahn and varsity is scheduled for 4pm.
