
SWEDES PREVAIL IN PANTHER SWEEP
Lindsborg, Kan.- The Swedes hosted the York University Panthers Wednesday, October 4th.
The Swedes came out hot against the Panthers in a three set sweep. Beginning in set one; Bethany dominated the net quickly earning a six point lead over York at 9-3. The Panthers were able to chip away at the lead but Bethany held on and continued to make crucial plays. York was able to tie the set at 12 apiece. The Swedes edged out of the tie and built a small lead at 17-14. From there on, Bethany controlled the set, setting an aggressive tempo and crushing the opposition. The Swedes finished out the set at 25-16.
Start of set two, York was determined to stay with the Swedes and they went point for point for the first five points and tied. Bethany broke the tie and lead by one until York tied it up again at 12-12. The Panthers took the upper hand and led until a second tie at 14-14 was forced by the Swedes. From there Bethany worked to build a lead after a couple of mistakes from York at 18-15. Determined to find their footing, York once again went on a run and tied the set for a third time at 18-18. This was a turning point in the set for the Swedes, who kicked it into high gear and went on a run leading the Panthers at 24-20. York hung on for another two point before Bethany closed out the set at 25-21.
Leading the match 2-0, the Swedes set the stage for a 3-0 sweep against the Panthers. York came out of the gate ready and set the tempo to start off the third set, quickly earning a 4-1 lead. Bethany struggled to minimize the damage caused by the Panthers and got within two at 6-8. York once again went on a run and extended the lead to six at 14-8. The Swedes adjusted and continued to ride out the run by the Panthers which ended at 20-16. The momentum shifted in favor of the Swedes who took control of the set after a tremendous comeback which tied the set at 21-21. Bethany once again made crucial plays at the right times to then take the advantage and the game. Bethany finished the third set 25-23.
Notable stats from this game include 11 kills by Zola Moore, 2 blocks by Melia Coleman, and 29 digs from Libero Michelle Acevedo.
