
SWEDES TRIUMPHANT IN WEEKEND TRI
Wichita, Kan.- Bethany was on the road at Friends University over the weekend, Saturday, October 28. The Swedes took on the Friends University Falcons and the Haskell Indian Nations University Indians in a triangle match. Up first for the Swedes was the Falcons.
Set 1 started with a quick lead for the Falcons at 5-1. Bethany chipped away at the lead and came within two at 5-7 but Friends went on another run to extend the lead back to four at 10-6. That didn't discourage the Swedes who responded with a quick run to tie the set up at 11-11. Unfortunately for Bethany, Friends would regroup and take back the lead and shut down the Swedes' offense. The Falcons got hot and extend their advantage to five at 18-13. This would hold until Friends took the set at 25-22.
Set 2 would belong to the Swedes who quickly took advantage and gained a lead over Friends at 4-1. Bethany would lead this entire set. Zola Moore led this set with 4 kills and Leamaris Fuentes Torres won the set winning point with a service ace, finishing 25- 16. The Swedes ended the set hitting a .211 PCT with 12 kills and only 4 errors.
Set 3 would start with both teams preventing the other from going on a run until Friends gained a three-point advantage over Bethany at 10-7. The Swedes would struggle to close the gap. The Falcons would continue to push points and extended their lead to five at 15-10. The Swedes would not be able to overcome the deficient. Friends would take the set at 25-20.
Set 4 Bethany and Friends started by trading points which resulted in several ties. Both teams were tied at 7-7, when Bethany gained a slight advantage at 11-9. The Falcons responded with a small run which led to the Swedes being down by 2 at 15-13. Friends would continue to push points and extended their lead to 4 at 19-15. Bethany worked to chip away at the lead but still found themselves down by four at 19-23. The Swedes refused to give Friends the win and went on a run to 22-24. The Falcons couldn't stop the momentum from the Swedes and the set got tied up at 24-24. Bethany would close out the set after two attack errors made by Friends at 26-24.
Set 5 started out as a nail bitter with several ties between the two teams until Bethany pulled away with a lead at 10-8. The Swedes continued to push points and the Falcons were down by 5 at 14-9. Bethany would take the set and the match at 15-11.
Notable Stats from this game include 15 kills by Zola Moore, 4 blocks by Madison McGuire, and 31 digs by Michelle Acevedo.
Following the Friends match, the Swedes took on the Haskell Indians. This match would be a four-set contest which ended in victory for Bethany. Bethany took the first two sets; 25-20, and 25-21. The Indians took set three, 25-14. The Swedes would win the fourth and final set of the night at 27-25.

Up next for the Swedes is Sterling College at home, Wednesday, November 1 at 5:30 and 7pm in Hahn Gymnasium. Following Wednesday, Bethany will host their last regular season game against Southwestern College, Saturday, November 4 at 6pm which also is Senior Night for the Swedes.
