SWEDES STRUGGLE IN STEPHENS TRI
Columbia, MO. - Bethany College was on the road Saturday, September 21st for a weekend triangular match against the hosting Stephens College Stars and the visiting Culver-Stockton Wildcats. First up for the Swedes was Stephens College where they fell 0-3 to the Stars.
Set 1: Both teams started off aggressive and going point for point until the 9-9 mark where the Stars would gather some momentum that would put them ahead by three at 9-12. From there the Swedes would try and chip away at the lead but Stephens would continue to maintain their momentum and would finish the set at 25-17.
Set 2: The Swedes would come out in set 2 struggling as the Stars would score multiple points in a row, increasing their lead until the halfway mark where momentum would shift. Bethany would go on a scoring run to tie up the set at 19-19. Unfortunately for the Swedes, Stephens would rally and go on to win set 2, 25-22.
Set 3: The final set of the match would start with both teams making solid plays and going point for point until the 9-9 mark where Bethany would take a small lead. The Stars managed to go on a run and would take the lead back at 17-13. Bethany would try and regroup but couldn't shift momentum in time. Stephens swept the Swedes 25-17.

Next, Bethany faced the Culver-Stockton where they took the first set in extra points but ultimately lost the match, 1-3, after the Wildcats won the next three sets.
Set 1: The Swedes came out strong against the Wildcats and had the set tied up at 9-9. Culver-Stockton would go on a run and the Swedes would find themselves down by four, 19-15. Bethany called a timeout at after the Wildcats scored two more and extended their lead to six, 21-15. The Swedes rallied and shifted the momentum back their way until they tied up the set at 23-23. The Swedes were able to take set one after finishing 26-24.
Set 2: Bethany hot off their first set win, came out swinging in set 2. The Swedes held a small lead over the Wildcats at 15-12. Unfortunately for the Swedes, Culver-Stockton would regroup and come back with some fire to tie up the set at 15-15. From there it was all Culver-Stockton who finished the set 25-19.
Set 3: Set 3 was the worst set for the Swedes who struggled after being tied up at 11-11. Bethany had 9 kills for the set with 5 errors, hitting a .114. The Wildcats took advantage and would finish the set 25-13.
Set 4: Final set of the night, the Swedes battled early but found themselves behind after being tied up at 6-6. Bethany would try and chip away at the deficient but the Wildcats held on and finished the set 25-17.

Up next, the Swedes are hosting the Bethel College Threshers in their conference opener, Wednesday, September 25th, with JV starting at 5:30pm and varsity set to start at 7pm.
