SWEDES COMPETE IN CAROL SWENSON INVITATIONAL
McPherson, Kan. - The women's and men's cross country teams competed at the Carol Swensson Invitational Cross Country meet in McPherson, Kansas on Friday evening.
The Swedes battled warm conditions Friday evening and definetely had some strong highlights coming away from their 2nd competition. There was a decision to move the mens race to a 5k was due to extreme heat.
"As the times did not reflect where we truly are, I was still impressed with the effort we put out this evening. We are training hard right and will be ready to run our best times at the tail end of the season when it really matters. We will have the remainder of our meets on Saturday mornings which will be a benefit for our runners. We have been training in the heat and will gain those advantages moving into the remainder of the season," said Head Coach Aaron Yoder.
The women's squad was led by junior Elyse Boden who ran 24:35 good for 25th place. The men's team ended up 4th in a field of 8 teams, though only 5 teams qualified to be ranked due to number of runners. They were led by freshman Ayden Summers who just missed out on a medal, good for a 17th place. His time of 18:00 was a lifetime best for the 5k distance. Bethany's top 5 runners kept close distance with a 5 man spread of 1:28.
