SWEDES COMPETE IN MUTHAMA-ROGERS INVITATIONAL

North Newton, Kan. - The Bethany College Cross Country Teams competed plenty of other KCAC opponents in the Muthama-Rogers Invitational hosted by Bethel College.

The weather was cooler but still battled the humidity and tricky footing. The women's and men's teams both were 2nd place overall. Overall the Swedes walked away with 7 personal bests and 3 top 10 medalists.

"Another great day for the Bethany College Cross Country Teams!" said head cross country coach Aaron Yoder.

The women's team was led by junior Elyse Boden and senior Zoe Auld as both finished in the top 10 and both had seasonal bests for the 5k. The men's team was led by freshman Eli Gruenbacher who finished in the top 10 and bettered his time from a 4 mile race in his split en route to his 8k time of 29:20. Both teams ran very well.

Coach Yoder: "I was very impressed with how both teams kept the packs tight in particular the men's team who had finishes of 9th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 16th for our top 5. The big break performances were Elyse Boden, Zoe and Eli Gruenbacher. We were coming off a recovery week so I know we would have performed better with harder training but we are planning to peak later in the season. This was a good indicator that our training and competitive drive are at a high level right now. This was a good showing today and we displayed the hard we have been putting in through the heat wave. We will be excited to return to McPherson in 2 weeks to more progress and improvement."
